Smart Bus Recent Transportation Planning Initiative

The City of Hamtramck is excited to share the results of SMART Bus’ recent transportation planning initiative to expand bussing in Southeast Michigan – and for the first time, to include a SMART Bus route connecting Hamtramck to Detroit and the surrounding region.

Residents are invited to attend a virtual “SMARTer Network and Study” workshop to learn more. This online public information meeting will be held on Monday, August 4th, at 4PM, and will give Hamtramck residents the opportunity to learn about SMART’s finalized route map in Hamtramck and proposed Route 500.

Route 500 is proposed to travel West on Caniff, South on Joseph Campau, and West of Holbrook. Upon exiting Hamtramck, passengers will be able to take the proposed Route 500 to Mack Ave in downtown Detroit, before retracing the route through Hamtramck and heading North to Sterling Heights and other suburbs.

Please note that details regarding frequency, timetables, and implementation are still in flux. Following the public information meeting, the City will share announcements from SMART as they become available.
