The mission of the Hamtramck Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Hamtramck by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.

The City of Hamtramck contracts with the Michigan Humane Society for all its animal needs. If you have lost a pet and the Police Department has picked it up, first, check with the Michigan Humane Society at its Detroit, Westland and Rochester Hills facilities.

If you have not located your pet here, don’t stop looking. Also check with all local animal care facilities, veterinary offices, social media, ask your neighbors, and keep checking.

How do I file a police report? 

  • Crime reports can be filed by contacting the Hamtramck Police front desk at 313-800-5281 (nonemergency) or by coming in to the front desk located inside City Hall at 3401 Evaline, Hamtramck 48212. Police reports cannot be generated over the phone, however lost property reports can be made online at https://apps.clemis.org/OCPRS/?AGENCY_CD=hm

How do I obtain a copy of a police incident report?

  • You may obtain a copy of a police incident report by going to the Traffic & Records Bureau located on the second floor of City Hall. The Traffic & Records Bureau is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Reports are normally available one business day after completion, unless there is an ongoing investigation. You may contact the Traffic & Records Bureau at 313-800-5275 to confirm the report’s availability.

How do I obtain a copy of a crash report?

  • You may obtain a copy of a crash report online from CLEMIS or by following the same procedure outlined above for obtaining an incident report. 

How do I obtain a permit to purchase a handgun?

  • Hamtramck residents may apply for a permit to purchase a handgun at the Traffic & Records Bureau, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please contact the Traffic & Records Bureau at 313-800-5275 for additional questions and requirements

How do I get fingerprinted?

  • You may be fingerprinted at the Traffic & Records Bureau located on the second floor of City Hall. Fees vary depending on the type of fingerprinting you require. Call the Traffic & Records Bureau at 313-800-5275 for more information and to schedule an appointment. 

How do I obtain a Handicap Parking sign for in front of my house?

  • Hamtramck Residents with a permanent disability plate issued by the Michigan Secretary of State may apply for a Handicap Sign in from of their residence at the Traffic & Records Bureau located on the second floor of City Hall. The Traffic & Records Bureau is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There is an $100 installation fee and a $25 per year renewal fee.

The Internal Affairs Bureau is dedicated to preserving integrity, which is critical to the functioning of the Police Department, and combating corruption within the Hamtramck Police Department. The department cannot successfully serve the public without maintaining public trust.
