Election Information

Voter Registration

New residents of Hamtramck may register to vote at City Hall, 3401 Evaline, Hamtramck, MI 48212, at any Secretary of State Branch Office, at certain state agencies, or by mail. Your voter registration is permanent; however, If you move from one community to another or change your name, you must re-register to vote. State law requires that you register to vote at the address shown on your Michigan Driver’s License.

You are qualified to vote if:

  • You are at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election at which you wish to vote.
  • You are a citizen of the United States.
  • Close of Registration is now 2 weeks before election day. Anyone wishing to register to vote inside the 2 week window can do so at the City Clerk’s Office even on Election Day.

Permanent Absentee Voter Application Request

The City Clerk’s Office maintains a list of voters who are interested in receiving Absentee Ballot Applications prior to every election. There are no requirements to be placed on the list.

To request being placed on the permanent list contact the Clerk’s Office at 313-800-5233 ext. 821.
