Overview

The City of Hamtramck will be selling surplus and vacant property from time to time. Notices for sales will be listed on this website, posted in City Hall and advertised in our newspaper of record “The Review.” City of Hamtramck surplus and vacant property sales may be conducted as live auctions, by sealed bid or in another manner. Please read the notices carefully for instructions related to bidding on specific properties.

The Police Department holds auctions from time to time as well. Check the PD’s Facebook page regularly for upcoming events.

NOTICE OF 2025 AUCTION OF CITY-OWNED PROPERTY

  • 2/26/2025 – List of properties for auction and auction application available on this webpage, in the “How to Apply” section below.
  • 3/10/2025 – City Auction begins.
    • Applications submitted to the City Clerk.
    • Applicants must submit a $50 application fee, and applications must meet all 3 requirements in order to be considered:
      • 1) Buyers must repair and bring the property up to code or construct a new unit within two years of purchase.
      • 2) Buyers must have the ability to close the sale within 48 hours of the auction ending date.
      • 3) Buyers must make a $500 good faith deposit with their application PER PROPERTY, which will be applied toward the purchase price, if awarded the winning bid. Deposits will be returned to unsuccessful bidders upon the end date of the Auction. The City will award sales to the highest qualifying bids.

  • 4/1/2025 – Deadline for City Auction.
    • Winning Bids for each respective property will be announced.

Select a Topic

1) City Council approves list of properties to be auctioned.
2) Completed applications are turned into the City Clerk with required fee, deposit, and application.
3) Complete applications and bids are opened by the City Clerk and reviewed by the Community and Economic Development Department.
4) If awarded a winning bid, City and Buyer will close on the property within 48 hours of the end date of the auction (i.e., by April 2, 2025).
5) Buyer commits to build on or develop the lots, per the auction requirements listed in the application.

The city reserves the right to remove properties from this list at any time and does not guarantee that the list is up to date.

For the 2025 City Property Auction:

Download an application and return in person or by mail to the City Clerk between March 10, 2025 @ 8am – April 1, 2025 @ 10am. Please note that the highest qualified bid will be awarded, and in the event that equal bids are submitted, the bid will be awarded to the applicant who first submitted a qualified bid.
