Property for Sale

Overview

The City of Hamtramck will be selling surplus and vacant property from time to time. Notices for sales will be listed on this website, posted in City Hall and advertised in our newspaper of record “The Review.” City of Hamtramck surplus and vacant property sales may be conducted as live auctions, by sealed bid or in another manner. Please read the notices carefully for instructions related to bidding on specific properties.

The Police Department holds auctions from time to time as well. Check the PD’s Facebook page regularly for upcoming events.

10/31/2024 – Deadline for complete Residential Lot Sale applications.

  • Applications are submitted to the Community and Economic Development Department. See application for requirements, including overview of the Development Agreement.

11/1/2024 – Neighbor Side Lot Sale Program begins.

  • The City will offer select empty lots to adjacent neighbors only for purchase and use as side lots/expansion of their existing property. This application will be released on 11/1, and no development agreement will be required for purchase of the side lots. 

12/2/2024 – Deadline for complete Side Lot Sale applications.

  • Applications are submitted to the Community and Economic Development Department.

1) Completed applications are turned into the Economic Development Department with a fee and reviewed by the CED Department.
2) Complete applications and proposals are reviewed by City Council.
3) If approved by Council, the City and Developer will sign the Parcel Purchase & Development Agreement.
4) Buyer has two years to build and develop the lots, per the development agreement. A one-year extension may be requested in certain situations, per the legal agreement.

The city reserves the right to remove properties from this list at any time and does not guarantee that the list is up to date.

Other lots may be added back if current applications are withdrawn. 

Parcels are $10,000 each and require an additional $5,000 Development Bond per parcel. All plans should conform to the zoning code.
