The purpose of the Zoning Board of Appeals is to hear and decide appeals in accordance with the law, to hear and decide applications for special permits upon which the Board is empowered to act under, and to hear and decide petitions for variances.

Appointment Process

Appointed by the City Council. An appointed member shall be a resident of the city for not less than thirty days before his or her appointment and shall maintain residency during his or her term. Paid a rate determined by Council per meeting. Three (3) year term, 7 members, 2 Alternate Members. An appointed member shall not hold another municipal office except that one appointed member may be a member of the Plan Commission.

Meets on the third Tuesday of the Month at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, Hamtramck City Hall, 3401 Evaline Street, Hamtramck, MI 48212. Meetings are open to the public. Meetings may be cancelled if there are no appeals or variances to review.
