The Hamtramck Planning Commission promotes, coordinates, and facilitates the involvement of all people in the long range planning and vision for our community to improve economic development, quality of life, and provide value-add services.
The Planning Commission was created by Ordinance 497 (Updated by Ordinance 2017-04).
Act 33 of 2008, MCL 125.3815.

Shall consist of nine (9) members, six of whom shall be representative insofar as possible, of different professions or occupations and shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council, and three (3) of whom shall be ex-officio members namely: The Mayor, one (1) of the administrative officials of the city selected by the Mayor, and one (1) member of the Common Council, to be selected by it. The appointments by the Mayor shall always be subject to the approval of a majority vote of the Common Council. All serve without compensation. The terms of each appointed member shall be three (3) years or until his successor takes office, except for the ex-officio members whose terms shall correspond to their respective official tenures. Vacancies occurring otherwise than through the expiration of terms, shall be filled for the unexpired term by the Mayor, subject to approval by a majority vote of the Common Council.
NOTE: $200.00 FEE TO MEET WITH COMMISSION C.C.R. 10-6-92, (TERMS EXPIRE JAN 1ST) Members of a planning commission shall be qualified electors of the local unit of government, except that the following number of planning commission members may be individuals who are not qualified electors of the local unit of government but are qualified electors of another local unit of government: (a) 3, in a city that on September 1, 2008 had a population of more than 2,700 but less than 2,800. (b) 2, in a city or village that has, or on September 1, 2008 had, a population of less than 5,000, except as provided in subdivision (a). (c) 1, in local units of government other than those described in subdivision (a) or (b).
An appointed member shall not hold another municipal office except that one appointed member may be a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals or a member of a joint fire administrative board.
The Planning Commission meets First Wednesday of Each Month at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, Hamtramck City Hall, 3401 Evaline Street, Hamtramck, MI 48212.
